A black-and-white portrait of Abbey IT-A, photography by Edward Prah.jpg

Abbey IT-A balances artistic practice and curatorial thought as mutual decoys. They have presented independent experimental, multi-vocal interventions with photography, video, text, conversations and workshops in ‘Not Wrapped in Cellophane’ (Ghana Museum of Science and Technology, 2021), ‘MbWa’ (KNUST, 2023), ‘Out of Breath’ (KNUST, 2023), ‘INTERVENTION ‘ON SITE’ (Zeitz MOCAA, 2024), ‘Kɔηsεt Pāti - a moving image project’ (2025-) and ‘Stomata: Dr. Mahashe’s Open Frames’ (2026) at the Foundation for Contemporary Art (FCA)—Ghana.

Abbey “disguises” as a curator at FCA—Ghana, supporting and promoting local, regional, and international contemporary art practices and discourses through active programming.

Educated in Africa, Abbey holds a BFA in Painting from the Department of Painting and Sculpture (KNUST, Kumasi), where they are currently a candidate for an MFA. They hold a BA Honours in History as an alumnus of the 2024 Zeitz MOCAA & UWC Museum Fellowship Programme (Cape Town). Abbey is a recipient of the Prince Claus Seed Award (2023), and they have participated in ‘Art Exchange: Moving Image’ (LUX, Yinka Shonibare/G.A.S Foundation, British Council, 2023) and the Building Beyond Fellowship (Creative Industries Fund-NL, the Prince Claus Fund, 2025).

Abbey IT-A lives and works in Ghana.
